As the conventional music industry recycles itself towards entropy, new media and technology give listeners an unprecedented degree of free choice in the music they listen to and support. This new plateau has allowed the unique, passionate and contemporary music of Chris Cawthray to reach an audience previously bound by the rigid structure of the old music industry. Whether it is through free and paid downloads, filesharing and trading of bootlegs, live performances in non-traditional venues, or simply the ability for an artist and his audience to interact equilaterally; an organic community of conversant music fans is growing around Chris’ music.
To that end, an artist shouldn’t concern themselves with outmoded generic musical conventions; audiences are starting to know better; and they know they have a choice. Cawthray’s recording and working groups are mixing in-the-pocket groove playing and group improvisation on original compositions and interpretations of other artists.
