new CPZ album out April 1st

March 24, 2008 · Leave a Comment

It’s being released as a download-only from my site (you may notice that my other albums are currently not listed for sale… this is only temporary and many of the titles are still available at iTunes and emusic) for now, but we may press CDs for our next round of live shows. We encourage you to download, however. (The album will be $5.)

the credits for this are as follows:

track listing/

1. girasol 4.22 2. at sunset 18.56 3. MEGtwo 11.50

Tracks recorded live to substandard, but heroic, recording devices haphazardly placed at Somewhere There, Toronto and Tea Lounge, Brooklyn in 2006 and 2007.

The source recordings were then produced and digitally repaired by Pacy Shulman and myself. There are no overdubs or “fixes” of any kind, but extensive digital recovery work was required for the MEGtwo track. We had a recording by Topher Stott that had huge audio dropouts and time-gaps in it, which we laid over a recording I had made simultaneously with my DV video camera. The DV recording was 100% intact, if not the highest fidelity. The gaps and cuts were found within the DV recording and pasted back in to the original recording. This was incredibly time consuming and Pacy deserves the Engineer’s Medal of Honour for not simply telling us to go play the song again. ;)

I hope you can take the time to listen to this music, and please come back to the blog and leave your comments. We hope this recording will be a calling card to get us on the road and into your town, thanks for hanging in this far…

ps. for drumgeeks:

tracks 1&3 were recorded on my Sonor Phonic drums 13×9,16×16,14×22bd with a Pearl Sensitone Elite aluminum snare 5×14. Cymbals are (of course) PAISTE: 14″ Dimensions Crunch Hats, 19″ 2002 Thin Crash, 20″ Dimensions Power Crash. A pro-mark cymbal rattler was on top of the 19 and 20 at various times too…

track 2 was recorded on a rental kit (drums du jour) that I totally loved: Yamaha Manu Katche HipGig Jr. drums 10×8, 13×13, 16×16bd with a Remo Gold Crown snare drum (5.5×14). I used my own cymbals, PAISTE: 14″ Dimensions Crunch Hats, 18″ Traditionals Thin Crash, 20″ Signature Rough Ride (with some duct tape on it).
