cc3 Tuesdays extended

August 30, 2006 · 1 Comment

FYI, cc3’s Tuesday hit in Scarborough (at Canyon Creek) has been extended through the end of November. 6pm-9pm, no cover. On 9/5, I’ll be away (Monis is subbing) and we’re off the last week of September while Rob Price, Ed Z and I are gigging in various locales.

bye Pluto

So, they’ve decided Pluto is no longer a planet. Maybe soon, in a similar fashion they’ll decide that any music made with ProTools isn’t music. :)

It was brought to my attention that you had to register to leave a comment. Sorry! That would be a real time-waster and likely discourages comments from being posted.

I fixed it, so you should be able to comment freely now. Be nice. :)

the Lilypad, at sunset.

August 14, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Here is an 11.66MB mp3 of CPZ doing Alice Bierhorst’s “at sunset” at the Lilypad in Cambridge, MA on August 3, 2006. Forgive my enthusiasm but I dig this performance. This is only our third gig, and we’ve yet to schedule a real rehearsal. This is the music I want to share with anyone willing to give ears to it. I hope we can realize the potential of this band before economics and schedules pull it apart. If you dig the track, tell us! Leave a comment here or send an email, and share this link with your friends!

You may have missed these guys when they were around. The album is awesome, here’s a clip, and there’s more on YouTube.

Wow. I just found this clip from 1969 on YouTube. LN was an incredible singer, writer and performer. A true original. Check it out, just her and her piano playing. Watching stuff like this only illuminates how far pop music has fallen, or strayed from music itself.

smokin’, thanks to no smoke

August 9, 2006 · Leave a Comment

cc3 hit it tonight. We were definitely locked in, as every tune flowed effortlessly. We did an 80 minute first set and I could have done 80 more. Why? No smoking allowed on the patio @Vaughan Mills. It’s so simple, but when we can breathe so can the music. Last night in Scarborough (where smoking is still allowed, dare I say, encouraged), I was ready to go home by the 40 minute mark in the first set.

Second set tonight was spent doing requests for 80’s covers. We did “Maneater”, “Hungry Like the Wolf”, “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” (technically a 70s tune, but when the person requesting it was born in ‘83 you give them a little slack….), “Land Down Under” by Men at Work, and “Jump” by Van Halen.

Our VH diversion got us talking about them in general. As a group, cc3 is in the DLR camp, as opposed to the Van Hagar era. Eric and I both quite liked VH with Gary Cherone, and I came home tonight and downloaded “Without You” off iTunes. This is a very underrated tune from the Cherone album, and probably one of the last 6minute singles ever approved by a major label. The tune stunk up the charts and VanCherone was no more, which is a shame.

Drop .99 for yourself and let me know what you think.

melting…

August 9, 2006 · Leave a Comment

We spent the day on Toronto Island, and I think I’m melting from being in the sun. :) Now I’m off to hit with the trio at Vaughan Mills, where they have built their patio in such a manner as to create an “oven” like feeling, at least until the sun goes down. So, the melt will continue.

A CD of the Lilypad gig is on its way to me, I hope to have it up for your listening pleasure by the end of the week.

iTunes deals of the day

August 7, 2006 · Leave a Comment

I’m spending a Monday morning perusing iTunes. Here’s my finds:

-Glenn Kotche’s “Mobile” album for $3.96

-Loggins and Messina “On Stage” live album – they’re selling it as individual tracks only, but you can get a 21-minute version of “Vahevela” for 99cents. I bought almost 40 minutes of the album for 3 bucks.

Of course, the real download deals are here.
